10. Wednesday

GOOD MORNING!

I mean... good morning. Today is Silent day. On Wednesday of Holy Week there is no scripture passages that directly cover the days' events. However, it is believed that the day was spent on preparations for the Last Supper. We also know that Judas was working in assisting with Jesus' arrest at this point.

As I was looking to build a theme for this day, off of literally nothing, I realized that was it! Nothing! The bible is "Silent" on this day. So perhaps we should be too... But let's still read SOME scripture.

1.

Psalm 62

For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down— this leaning wall, this tottering fence? Surely they intend to topple me from my lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse.[b]

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God[c]; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath. 10 Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

11 One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God, 12  and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.”

2.

I chose this Psalm to sit with, because it is about resting. It is about being torn down and hearing lies, but not being shaken. I think today is an important day because it is about resting in silence. On this day Jesus and his disciples likely had an average day of tasks and time spent in each others' company. The day isn't full of teachings or tantrums. It was just an average day. What the disciples did not realize is, that it was one of their last average days with Jesus, their teacher.

So perhaps we can all have a day of rest and silence merely in the company of others. I am sorry to tell you, but today will not be your last average day. You will have many more "average" days in the coming weeks, even though they may not feel so average. But this day can be spent thinking about this Psalm. This average day can be spent with Jesus, who was also having an average day.

Wednesday was average, and Jesus was there.

4.

So Today... We are going to be as silent as possible. Really! I want us all to have average days that are less hectic. Please put your computers away. (after you finish reading this) Put away your phone, switch, T.V., d.s.?, ipod? walkman (yes Christy I am talking to you), cassette player, etc. Get rid of noise for the afternoon

I know this is going to be difficult for most of us, (I am literally listening to music as we speak), which is why I hope you read this in the morning and finish as much work and screen time as you need to. But from 1:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. unplug and enter rest and silence. Go ahead and meditate on Psalm 62.

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. Michigan time, I will be hosting a Zoom gathering. This will be a time of coming back to noise in a way that is peaceful. My friend Rachel Stevens will be walking us through some Yoga/Meditation on scripture, and there will be some live music from Myself and Emma Chung. It is a time to move our bodies, and break the silence, and end our "average" day together. I hope you will Join!

If you would like to attend, please message me via my About page on this website. Or contact me via Instagram Message @its_raining_somewhere_blog so we can get an idea of who all will be coming! I will also answer any questions if you need clarity. (I will be breaking my Silence at two times today to follow up with y'all's messages, sorry!)

I am hopeful that this time of Silence and Rest will help us prepare for the days to come. Just an average day with Jesus. Before 1:00p.m. use the #shhchallenge and share a picture of what you'll be doing in your silent time. Post the picture on your Instagram story or feed and tag me!

Blessings to you all! If this is a difficult time for you, take heart! It's Raining Somewhere.
